BLKDOG, Botis Seva (2021; currently touring)

The result of a collaboration between Torben and Olivier Award-winning choreographer Botis Seva and his company Far From The Norm, BLKDOG is an intensely personal work about pain, community, and how people cope with despair.

Originally commissioned in 2018 as part of Sadler’s Wells’ 20th Anniversary celebrations, BLKDOG has since toured nationally and internationally to critical and public acclaim.

In 2019, BLKDOG won the Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production; it has also been nominated for Best New Dance Production at the 2021 Black British Theatre Awards, and for Best Modern Choreography in the 2021 Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards.

“taut, technically impressive and hard-hitting – again, and again” – The Guardian

“Torben Sylvest’s muscular score is a marvel of eloquence. Based on the thumping, highly syncopated beats of hip hop, it nevertheless includes a large range of tonalities and moods, as well as seamlessly accommodating the spoken word.” – CultureWhisper

“...egged on by Torben Sylvest’s pounding score – so intense that as an audience you feel its vibrations in your own body.” – CultureWhisper
